of the Chapter
The Charter Banquet for the General Joseph Martin TNSSAR Chapter was held on May 8, 2004 at the Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.
The meeting was called to order by Compatriot Bob Hughes, TNSSAR past president. Forty-seven members and guests attended the event.
Compatriot Terry Williams, Chaplain Elect, gave the invocation following the presentation of the colors by the TNSSAR Color Guard. David McCuistion, Chief Warrant Officer, U.S. Navy (Ret.) gave a toast to the flag followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Color Guard then posted the colors.
After an outstanding dinner, greetings were brought from Compatriots Todd Williams (President Elect), Jim Thweatt (President TNSSAR), Jim Moore (V.P. TNSSAR East), Rod Hildreth (V.P.G. NSSAR Southern District), and Joseph Martin (Col. U.S.A.F. - Ret. and President of the Martin Family Association).
Compatriot Stanley A. Evans (TNSSAR State Registrar and President Colonel Benjamin Cleveland Chapter TNSSAR), presented the charter top the new chapter. Compatriot Rod Hildreth then installed the new officers of the General Joseph Martin Chapter. Charter member certificates were handed out by Compatriot Bob Hughes. President Todd Williams gave closing remarks. The recessional was led by Compatriot Paul E. Jordan (Past TNSSAR President). The benediction was given by Chaplain Terry Williams. The meeting as adjourned after the retiring of the colors.
The first chapter meeting of the General Joseph Martin Chapter was held at Ryans Steakhouse in Middlesboro, KY at 7 p.m. on June 19, 2004.
The General Joseph Martin Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution is a culmination of over 2 years of hard work, research, and organization by Compatriot Bob Hughes. The chapter was formed to honor the Revolutionary War hero, General Joseph Martin. Compatriot Hughes is a descendant of General Martin.
